An STR is a disclosure that financial institutions must file with their national FIU when a transaction appears linked to money?laundering or terrorist?financing. STRs are “lead intelligence”: they trigger deeper FIU analysis but are not court evidence. Egmont’s exchange rules ensure STR data stay confidential and are shared only with the originating FIU’s consent.
