Transaction Velocity Filters

This term has 2 definitions.

  1. These filters flag high-frequency transactions within short intervals from the same account or device?like multiple UPI payments of ?1 each within seconds. This pattern often indicates automated fraud bots. NPCI uses this detection layer to throttle or block transactions, safeguarding funds before losses occur.

  2. NPCI enforces velocity checks that flag sudden bursts of transactions (e.g., 10+ UPI payments within seconds) from a single account or device. These filters help detect bot-driven fraud or scripted schemes. Transactions surpassing defined thresholds are automatically throttled or held, preventing large-scale unauthorized activity.
